Breast Self-Examination (BSE) is a technique that can be undertaken by women in the privacy of their own homes allowing them to examine their breasts for potential signs of early cancer. Although it is not as effective as mammography, it still improves the chances of detecting any breast abnormality that may lead to early cancer detection if performed properly.
This interactive BSE application, using multi angle video playback, was developed by BIOCORE (Biomedical Computing and Engineering Technologies) Applied Research Group at Coventry University, UK, in collaboration with the UK National Health Service (NHS). During usability testing, the app was proven to provide more effective information on how to correctly perform BSE whilst being easy to use.
